Oh, what a great dinosaur to talk about! And also a great conversation topic! Well, im going to let you guys know where i stand in size and what not, so be prepared!

Spinosaurus, hence the dinosaur i got my name from. Lets me get started on size, shall we? The places where i get my estimations are purely through what ive saw on most sites that have its size stated and also through observations of animals it has similarities with. All in all, i believe its size is up to 60 ft in length and 14 or 15 tons at most. My reason being is there is no reason for a carnivore to be long and not have weight and height, as well as a bunch of muscle to go along with that length. Length and predation do not mix well, at all, end of story. Which brings me to my second point, which i have stated many times in the past, a land predator that large simply does not rely on the smallest prey in an ecosystem, and also, somthing that large needs to feed almost constantly to keep the energy it needs to kill more/defend itself from intruders. 

Fish and small dinosaurs would not be enough to satisfy this enormous carnivore's hunger, so it would most likely resort to eating the much larger individuals of the dinosaurs in the area. Yes, it's skull shape insists it was adapted to capturing fish, but i look at it as more of an accesory to further satisfy its large appetite. 

This information i dont look at as merely just OPINIONS, i look at them more as highly educated guesses as to what this dinosaurs was and how it lived, and to add another thing, this is obviously nothing that is meant for starting and arguement, so please, people with strong opinions against this, tread very lightly with what you say, or i will notify you about it and depending on how aggressive you are towrds it, i will not hesitate to give you that same back, but through PM's.

Even int he novels the dinosaurs get impatient!!! In soem scenes it describes the dinosaur getting impatient whenever they can't see Grant since their vision pecularities were based on movement.

So your saying a hadrosaur that can run at about 25-30 mph or a baby saurpod that's constantly protected by its herd are easier then fish?

@ Cat - yes, but it would appear we may have actually found a bit of its arms with this new mount by Sereno, as this is probably why the arms appear disproportionally short, rather then the longer ones we estimated using Suchomimus and Baryonyx.

Are you kidding me? Strays are what predators look for, that and the sick ones, and if desperate enough, it would have no problem with picking off a member of a herd.

Raptor we are not basing on fiction, besides when animals run out of patience they don't hunt even larger prey they scavenge a lion for example intimidates cheetas

Even the biggest predators go for the young!!! Especially the ones that run off the herd/pack.

No predators go looking for the biggest, healthies animals in the herd. They survey the herd/ animal in question, and if they judge it just right, they go for the attack. S-rex is right, the sick, old, and weak are what predators look for - which in turns keeps herbivore populations disease free and strong.

Do you guys think I'm stupied? Obviously I know it would go for the youngest/straws of the herd but, Spinosaurus was a relatively slow animal, and was much more suited for hunting fish!

That dosent mean it couldn't hunt terrestrial prey!

first, relax a bit HHP.

Secondly, we were just explaining that predators don't go charging into herds, nor are the actively chasing their prey for miles( with the exception of wolves, which simply run their prey to death. They hunt via ambush, and looking for the sickeest/oldest/smallest/ easiest to kill animals.

Hiphop, theres no reason to get hostile dude, you just arent elaborating anough on what you say, we are just using real life situations that still go on today to pinpoint how animals lived back then.

Lets see, spinos jaws are too small to get a good grp of anigthing big, even if they had a big bite force they  would have a hard time, 2 animals that run out of patiance look for pray that is already dead or ding, 3 spinos claws where never found, 4 spino lived with hervivores to big to hunt if they wherent sick or young, 5 spino didn't only whait for fish he also whent underwater to get them, 6 spinos if no other option would unt pteradons, this means he whas around 80% psicover, 10% scavenger, 10% hunter

Cat, if fish saw something that big underwater, do you think they would stick around to see if would eat them or not? Hell to the no they wouldnt, and a Spino swimming faster than a fish? I would totally disagree on that.

It would appear Spino would be one of the less aquatically tied Spinosaurs as well

Do you know the croc technicke of waiting, thats one of the reasons they didn't use to mush energy compared to their size, spino could of had skin the color of sa a swamp and whait for fish or small prey to get near, that whay he dosrn't use a lot of energy and have sucesfoul hunts

It's an interesting idea, and perhaps a tactic it actively used, because Predators don't want to expend a lot of energy running down their prey, they want to make it quick and easy, without getting injured
