The Eighth and Ninth Velociraptors

Two weeks after the first seven Velociraptors were put in their paddock, two more hatched. Muldoon was in the room at the time, and he noticed right away that neither of them were making a sound. "Henry, what's wrong with these Raptors?" "What do you mean Robert?" "They aren't crying for help or chirping or anything, just watching." "That's the new gene we put in them, makes them smarter."

Muldoon's expression changed from concerned for the hatchling's sake to surprised and ticked off. "Why the hell would you want to make them smarter? The ones we have are smart enough to be dangerous, and you're making these ones smarter?" "Robert, calm down, we have this under control." "You think you have these things in your control, but they are lethal at eight months. Possibly sooner if these ones are smarter." "If you're so concerned about these damn things, why don't you go somewhere else and ignore these two?" "I'm the game warden. These things are my concern." "Then deal with what we are doing here and accept the fact that these things are dangerous."

Muldoon left the room grumbling to himself, and he went to the Raptor paddock. He looked at the Raptors, and they looked back before continuing with what they were doing. "At least they aren't too interested in me. Looks like they're adjusting to the new surroundings quite nicely."

Eight months later, the Raptors were put in a separate paddock to be studied. They were larger than the other ones. They were smarter than the others, and they had a viscous temper. They somehow knew there were other Raptors, and they knew what to do if they ever got to the other Raptors.

One of the feeders was doing his daily rounds, and he opened the paddock to feed the Velociraptors. One of the Raptors attacked, and the kill was quick and silent. While she was eating, the other Raptor escaped and shut the door behind her. When the door clicked shut, the other Raptor looked up. She saw that she was stuck inside the paddock now, and she hissed at the escaped Velociraptor. The escaped Raptor turned to leave, and a loud boom was heard as her head was blown clean off.

Muldoon lowered his sniper and sighed. He had been standing at the top of one of the nearby buildings looking at the island when Wu told him to monitor the feeding process. Muldoon was more than happy to watch the dinosaurs through his rifle scope instead of binoculars, but he was too late to save the feeder.

Muldoon walked down the stairs and explained what happened. The feeder's body was removed once the Velociraptor was tranquilized. The Raptor corpse was removed and fed to Rexy. Muldoon wanted the second Raptor to be kept in the paddock on its own for a while, and everyone else agreed.

Excellent chapter. Good that you show how foolish Hammond is in the book. This honestly looks like this could fit into the book.
